Market Mood in short

What does Market Mood show?

One pane for the top-50 coin basket. “Buyers share” is the share of coins with bid dominance, filled from the 50% line. “Net flow” is net market buying in dollars as bars. “Funding” is the average funding rate, “OI change” is the change in total open interest.

How to read Market Mood?

  • A buyers share above 50% means more coins are backed by buying.
  • Green “Net flow” bars mean net market buying across the basket; red bars mean net selling.
  • High average funding points to crowded longs across the market; negative funding points to short dominance.

How to use Market Mood?

  • Use it as context for any coin: trading against the overall mood is harder.
  • OI rising with price shows longs building; OI rising on a decline shows shorts building.
  • Compare spot and futures to see which market is leading the move.

What do you often see on Market Mood?

  • The series is still too short to test: it shows the state of the market, not direction.
  • Funding describes the crowd on futures, not the next move.
  • Trading against the overall mood is usually harder.

Where can I find Market Mood?

In the Liqwall terminal: the Indicators button, the Signals section, Market Mood. The “Open in the terminal” button on this page opens the chart with it already added.

0:00What Market Mood is

The 50 largest coins in a single panel. Market Mood shows the mood of the whole market. Who is stronger, where money is going and how overheated futures are.

0:11How to add Market Mood to the chart

Press the Indicators button, open the Liqwall list and type Market Mood in the search. The indicator appears in a separate panel under the chart.

0:20How to read Market Mood

One panel — one metric, and you switch them in the settings. Buyers share is the share of coins where buyers are stronger. Above the middle, more coins are supported by buying. Net flow is the net flow of market trades in dollars.

Green columns mean more buying across the market, red ones mean more selling. Funding is the average funding. A high value means longs are overheated across the market. OI change is the change in total open interest.

0:53Market Mood settings

The main setting is Metric, the choice of metric. Market switches between spot and futures, Smooth smooths the line. And OI change window sets over how many candles to count the change in interest. It's handy to keep two Market Mood panels side by side with different metrics. Interest rising together with price means longs are being built. Interest rising on a decline means shorts are being built.

1:19An example on a real chart

An example. Early October. On the 6th the average funding across the market rises to its highest level of the week. The crowd is in longs, while the net flow has been negative for a second day.

Across the market there is more selling than buying. Overheated longs and money leaving is a dangerous combination. On October 7 and 8 the market slid down. Bitcoin fell from 85.5 thousand to 80 thousand.

And open interest across the whole basket shrank by almost 10% over those days. The overheated positions were closed.

1:54What to pair Market Mood with

Keep Market Pressure next to it — the market's order book next to its trades. Fear & Greed Index will sum up the mood in one number, and Sectors will show where exactly the market is overheated.

2:07The takeaway
