Price ROC in short
What does Price ROC show?
Bars under the chart show the percent change in price over the chosen number of candles. Green means up, red means down. A bright color means momentum is building, a pale one means it is fading.
How to read Price ROC?
- Bright bars mean the move is accelerating.
- Pale bars of the same sign mean the move continues but slows down.
- A change of sign means price has turned over the period.
How to use Price ROC?
- Read it as a measure of the current move's strength, not a reversal signal: ROC divergences don't point to the next direction.
- Fading bars during an extended move are a reason to tighten your stop.
- Combine with Range Compression to see both speed and range.
What do you often see on Price ROC?
- Divergences between speed and price do not hint at direction — they are not reversals.
- One big candle at the start of the window lights up the whole period: check against price itself.
- Fading bars in a long move show the move is slowing.
- It does not predict direction on its own — better as a filter on order-book and trade data.
Where can I find Price ROC?
In the Liqwall terminal: the Indicators button, the Chart section, Price ROC. The “Open in the terminal” button on this page opens the chart with it already added.

0:00What Price ROC is
Is the trend still going, or is it running out of breath? Price ROC shows the speed of the price move and answers this question at first glance.
0:10How to add Price ROC to the chart
Open the indicator list, go to the Chart section and select Price ROC. The indicator appears in a separate panel under the chart.
0:18How to read Price ROC
Each bar shows by how many percent the price changed over the last few candles. Green bars mean growth, red ones mean a fall. A bright color means the move is accelerating. A pale color of the same sign means the move continues, but slower. Bars crossing zero within the period mean the price has turned.
0:41Price ROC settings
There are two lines in the settings. Period — over how many candles the change is calculated. Smooth smooths the bars if you want to see only big changes in speed.
0:51An example on a real chart
An example. September 3. From 3 p.m. bitcoin went up from 77 thousand 900, and by 10 p.m. it was at 81 thousand 700. Almost all bars in those hours were bright, the move was accelerating.
From 11 p.m. pale bars came, 5 in a row. At midnight the wick reached 82 thousand 300, but the bar under that candle also stayed pale, there was no more acceleration behind the dash. At 4 a.m. the bar crossed zero. All day the price stayed below the top, and from 3 p.m. on September 4 it dropped to 78,600.
1:33What to pair Price ROC with
Price ROC combines well with Range Compression. Speed together with the candle range shows whether it is a dash or a drawn-out move. Wall Pressure from the Signals section will tell you which side the order book is on when the move slows down, and with Key Levels you can see whether a break of the previous day's level comes with acceleration.
1:55The takeaway
Price ROC shows the strength of the move, and the order book suggests its side. Price ROC is in the Liqwall terminal, in the Chart section.
