Choose how much you are ready to lose if the stop is hit — the calculator gives the position size, the margin it takes and where liquidation would be. Long or short is read from where the stop is.

An estimate: exchanges add fees, funding and higher maintenance margin for large positions.

How to use it

  1. Enter your deposit and the risk per trade — in % of the deposit or in dollars.
  2. Enter the entry price and the stop loss: a stop below the entry means a long, above — a short.
  3. Choose the leverage. Leverage does not change the size or the risk — only how much of your money the position holds as margin.
  4. Check the line under the result: liquidation must be farther than the stop, otherwise lower the leverage.

A calculator is the start. The Liqwall terminal shows where stops and liquidations sit, the walls in the order books and the positions of whales — on the chart you trade from.Liqwall indicators are free with an exchange account opened through the Liqwall link.

Questions

How is the position size calculated?

Size in coins = risk in dollars ÷ distance from entry to stop. Example: risk $100, entry 100,000, stop 98,000 — the distance is 2,000, so the size is 0.05 BTC, or $5,000.

Why does leverage not change the risk?

The loss at the stop depends only on the size and the distance to the stop. Leverage only decides how much margin the exchange holds: $5,000 at 10× takes $500 of margin, at 5× — $1,000.

What if liquidation is closer than the stop?

Then the exchange closes the position before the stop. Lower the leverage — the calculator shows the highest leverage at which liquidation stays beyond the stop.

How much should I risk per trade?

Many traders keep it to 0.5–2% of the deposit, so a series of stops does not wipe out the account. The choice is yours; the calculator just turns it into a size.
